COPPER THEFT ARRESTS - JULY 9, 2010
Friday, 09 July 2010 13:49

On July 9, 2010 at 03:35 am, Deputy Tony Pedersen made a traffic enforcement stop south of Lynndyl on SR 6. The vehicle was stopped for travelling 86 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. When the Deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a large amount of scrap copper in the back seat. The vehicle was occupied by two male passengers and a female driver. When questioned about the copper, they stated they had found it lying on the side of the road south of Delta. All three suspects were arrested at that time for possession of recently lost or misplaced property. One of the suspects also had four statewide warrants from other jurisdictions.

A deputy working in the Fillmore area was advised of the circumstances surrounding this arrest and he responded to Flowell Electric, where there have been two previous copper thefts in recent weeks. The Deputy found where more copper had been drug underneath the fence. There were also recent footprints and tire tracks. The copper that was left at the scene had the same identifiers and manufacturer markings as the copper that was found in the vehicle.

All three suspects were arrested and booked into the Millard County Jail for Criminal Trespass, Theft, and Burglary of a Vehicle as they had broken into a vehicle at Flowell Electric as well. All of their charges will be gang enhanced due to the number of people involved. The three suspects were identified as 39 year-old Andrea D. Martinez, 34 year-old Jonathan E. Garcia, and 37 year-old Chad Eugene Ginter all from Tooele, Utah. Garcia was also booked on the warrants that were located for his arrest. The investigation is continuing and the information is being shared with other jurisdictions that may have had recent copper thefts.

Safe Tip

Think carefully before buying a firearm for protection. Guns can be stolen and sold to anyone, or captured and used on you or the police. If you do own a gun, keep it locked up with the ammunition secured separately and learn how to use it safely.
